Senior Ashley Berry averaged 2.80 kills per set over the three games, good for 28 kills. Freshmen Gillian Hidalgo and Kess Krutsinger also had productive weekends for the Golden Eagles, tallying 19 and 13 kills, respectively.
Southern Miss dropped both matches to San Francisco and Denver by a 3-0 score. Piper Matsumoto posted the first double-double of her Southern Miss career after tallying 27 assists and 13 digs against San Francisco.
Scouting the field
Mississippi State heads to Hattiesburg as the only undefeated team in the Southern Miss Classic after jumping to a 3-0 start in Starkville last weekend. The Bulldogs edged Chattanooga 3-1 in their opening contest before cruising to a three-set sweep over Mississippi Valley State. Mississippi State defeated Western Illinois in five sets to close out the weekend.
Arkansas State escaped the Bruiser Showcase with a 2-1 record with wins over North Alabama and Belmont. The Red Wolves fell to Milwaukee in five sets for their lone loss. Friday's contest marks the first between Southern Miss and Arkansas State since 2001.
New Orleans owns a 2-1 record after hosting the New Orleans Invitational to open the season. The Privateers knocked off North Dakota and Arkansas-Pine Bluff while dropping a match to Louisiana-Monroe.
Thoughts from Stephanie Radecki
"We are looking forward to hosting three strong programs this weekend. We have a lot of new faces who will be playing in the Coliseum for the first time and we are anxious to create a home atmosphere for them to compete in front of."
