Men's Tennis Hosts Season-Opening Tournament This Weekend

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Golden Eagle men's tennis team will begin its 2019-20 campaign with the Southern Miss Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free for the duration of the tournament.
Fans can also pick up complimentary t-shirts on Saturday and Walk-On's food on Sunday at noon, both while supplies last.
The field features No. 28 Alabama and No. 55 South Alabama, as well as New Orleans, UAB and William Carey. The Crimson Tide boast No. 42 singles player Edson Ortiz, while the Jaguars have No. 124 Loic Cloes. Ortiz and Patrick Kaukovalta are also No. 29 in doubles, while Cloes and Clement Marzol are No. 37.
Head coach Zubin Engineer enters his seventh season at the helm. The Golden Eagles return senior Ronit Bisht, junior Tom Cecchetto and sophomore Matthieu Peres, while bringing in Alabama A&M transfer Hsiang Yi Wang.
The Golden Eagles found plenty of success the last time they hosted the event, collecting 19 combined singles and doubles wins in Sept. 2017 over the likes of South Alabama, UAB and UL Lafayette.
Southern Miss will also compete at the ITA Regionals in Auburn, Ala. from Oct. 17-20, as well as the Samford Invitational in Birmingham (Nov. 7-10).
