2019-20 Southern Miss Men's Golf Schedule
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss second-year men's golf coach Eddie Brescher announced Thursday his program's schedule for the 2019-2020 season.
The schedule includes 12 events, encompassing five tournaments in the fall and seven in the spring, concluding with the Conference USA event, April 27-30, at the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark. It will be the sixth year that this event has been held there.
"Our schedule for this year features a great mix of events," said Brescher. "It is structured to test our players against the best competition in the country. Last year we changed up how we work on our players' tournament development. It is essential for this development that we move around to different courses in our area when we qualify. This is a great way to get our players out of their comfort zone and make them think their way around a course they are unfamiliar with. Exactly what we face when we go on the road to an event or course we have not seen."
The season begins Sept. 9-10 with the Sam Hall Intercollegiate at the Hattiesburg Country Club and will include stops at golf courses in seven different states, including a pair of events at Robert Trent Jones courses at Magnolia Grove in Mobile for the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate (Feb. 10-11) and at the Grand National in Opelika, Ala., for the Tiger Invitational (March 8-10).
"In all, we have seven new tournaments on our schedule that we have not played in the past," said Brescher. "This is a great opportunity for our team to prepare, play an event away from home, and beat teams we may not see again. Accumulating as many head to head victories as possible against teams spread across the country is our main goal. If we do our job in this regard, we should be in a good position by the end of the season."
The Golden Eagles captured two tournament events last season and three Golden Eagles, seniors Matt Lorenz and Walker Kesterson, along with junior Brian Richards, captured individual medalist honors in events during the year.
