Southern Miss Softball Wraps Up Regular Season With C-USA Home Series Against Louisiana Tech

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles (29-19, 12-9 C-USA) will conclude regular season play when they host the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (39-13, 17-4 C-USA) in a three-game C-USA series over the course of the upcoming weekend at the Southern Miss Softball Complex in Hattiesburg.

The Golden Eagles and the Lady Techsters will begin the series with a 6:00 p.m. (CT) contest on Saturday, May 4.

The two teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, May 5. Game two of Sunday's doubleheader will begin shortly after the conclusion of game one.

The last time on the diamond
The last time that Southern Miss took the field, they faced FIU in a three-game C-USA series at the FIU Softball Stadium in Miami, Fla. last weekend.

FIU won the series, 2-1 after capturing victories in games one and three. FIU took a 6-3 decision in game one and an 8-6 decision in game three. Southern Miss defeated FIU in game two by a final score of 4-2.

- After notching her eighth home run of the season in game one of Southern Miss' doubleheader against FIU last Saturday, sophomore center fielder Destini Brown now leads the Golden Eagles in the home runs category for the 2019 season.
- After collecting two doubles in the doubleheader against FIU, senior first baseman Sarah Van Schaik has now tallied a total of 17 doubles this season. Van Schaik's 17 doubles are currently the most recorded by any C-USA player this season.
- Game two of Saturday's doubleheader marked the longest outing of freshman right-handed pitcher Makenna Pierce's collegiate career. Pierce logged seven innings in the contest and tossed a one-hit gem.
- Southern Miss true freshman catcher Bre Blankenship earned the first start of her collegiate career in the series finale against FIU on Sunday. The New Port Richey, Fla. native started Sunday's game as the Golden Eagles' designated player.
- Southern Miss junior shortstop Lacey Sumerlin collected her 37th RBI of the season in Sunday's contest in Miami. Sumerlin's 37 RBIs are the most RBIs recorded by any player on the Southern Miss softball team this season.
