HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles (29-19, 12-9 C-USA) will conclude regular season play when they host the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (39-13, 17-4 C-USA) in a three-game C-USA series over the course of the upcoming weekend at the Southern Miss Softball Complex in Hattiesburg.

The Golden Eagles and the Lady Techsters will begin the series with a 6:00 p.m. (CT) contest on Saturday, May 4.

The two teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, May 5. Game two of Sunday's doubleheader will begin shortly after the conclusion of game one.

The last time on the diamond
The last time that Southern Miss took the field, they faced FIU in a three-game C-USA series at the FIU Softball Stadium in Miami, Fla. last weekend.

FIU won the series, 2-1 after capturing victories in games one and three. FIU took a 6-3 decision in game one and an 8-6 decision in game three. Southern Miss defeated FIU in game two by a final score of 4-2.

Noteworthy moments

After notching her eighth home run of the season in game one of Southern Miss' doubleheader against FIU last Saturday, sophomore center fielder Destini Brown now leads the Golden Eagles in the home runs category for the 2019 season.
After collecting two doubles in the doubleheader against FIU, senior first baseman Sarah Van Schaik has now tallied a total of 17 doubles this season. Van Schaik's 17 doubles are currently the most recorded by any C-USA player this season.
Game two of Saturday's doubleheader marked the longest outing of freshman right-handed pitcher Makenna Pierce's collegiate career. Pierce logged seven innings in the contest and tossed a one-hit gem.
Southern Miss true freshman catcher Bre Blankenship earned the first start of her collegiate career in the series finale against FIU on Sunday. The New Port Richey, Fla. native started Sunday's game as the Golden Eagles' designated player.
Southern Miss junior shortstop Lacey Sumerlin collected her 37^th RBI of the season in Sunday's contest in Miami. Sumerlin's 37 RBIs are the most RBIs recorded by any player on the Southern Miss softball team this season.

Breaking down the all-time record
Louisiana Tech leads the all-time series with an overall record of 26-18. Southern Miss holds an even record of 10-10 when hosting Louisiana Tech at home in Hattiesburg, a record of 3-12 in contests played in Ruston and a record of 5-4 in neutral site matchups.

The last meeting
The last time that Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech met on the softball diamond was on the weekend of March 30, 2018 when the two teams played a three-game C-USA series at the Lady Techster Softball Complex in Ruston, La.

Louisiana Tech swept the series after winning games one, two and three by scores of 4-1, 4-3 and 8-4 respectively.

The Lady Techsters are led by Head Coach Mark Montgomery who is currently in his seventh season at the helm of the Louisiana Tech softball program.

In their last outing, Louisiana Tech swept Western Kentucky in a three-game C-USA series that was played as the ULM Softball Complex in Monroe, La. this past weekend. Louisiana Tech took an 8-0 decision in game one, a 4-1 decision in game two and a 7-1 decision in game three.

Louisiana Tech currently leads C-USA both overall and in the West Division while Southern Miss is ranked fifth overall and third in the West Division. With both the Lady Techsters and the Golden Eagles having clinched berths in the 2019 C-USA Tournament, this weekend's series will help determine seeding for both teams.

Saturday night's game will feature Military and First Responders Appreciation Weekend and Sunday's doubleheader will feature Senior Day. Southern Miss will honor senior second baseman Chase Nelson, senior catcher Samantha Papp and senior first baseman Sarah Van Schaik for all of their contributions to the Southern Miss softball program.

Senior Day festivities will begin at 11:45 a.m. (CT) on Sunday.
