Southern Miss TF Student-Athletes Qualify for NCAA East Regionals

Nine individual athletes qualified for 10 events at the Preliminary Rounds, as well as the 4x100 relay team.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA East Regional Preliminaries, announced on Thursday by the NCAA.

Southern Miss has three women and eleven men who have qualified. They will compete in eleven different events.

McKinely West will compete in the 100m and 200m dash races, in which he is ranked 14th and 21st in the region, respectively. Rian Robinson will compete in the 400m. She is currently ranked 55th in the region. Trey Johnson will run the 400m on the men's side. He is currently ranked 28th in the region. In the 110m hurdles will be Caleb Parker, who is ranked 14th. For the high jump, both Eric Richards and Caleb Parker have qualified. Richards is ninth in the region, and Parker is 20th. In the long jump, Southern Miss will have both Eric Washington and John Warren. Washington is 30th, and Warren is 38th. Warren will also compete in the triple jump, where he is ranked third. Danisha Jones will compete in the discus. She is ranked 24th in the region. Callie Jones will compete in the javelin, and she places 15th in the region. The men's 4x100m relay team has also qualified, being ranked 22nd. The relay squad is made up of Chedlin Sagesse, McKinely West, Trey Johnson, and Elijah Burton.

The Regionals are set for May 23-25. The East Regionals will take place in Jacksonville, Fla., and will be hosted by the University of North Florida. The qualifiers for these two regional preliminary meets will move onto the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, scheduled for June 5-8 in Austin, Texas, to be held at the University of Texas.

For the preliminary competitions, individuals in the top 48 of their respective events and relay teams in the top 24 were qualified. Overall, there will be 89 student-athletes representing Conference USA in the preliminaries, both at the East and the West Regionals.
