
Southern Miss Softball Set to Face FIU in C-USA Series in Miami

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles (28-17, 11-7 C-USA) will take on the FIU Panthers (23-22, 4-13 C-USA) in a three-game C-USA series over the weekend. The series will be played at the FIU Softball Stadium in Miami, Fla.

Southern Miss and FIU will open the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 27. Game one of Saturday's doubleheader is set for 3:00 p.m. (CT). Game two will follow shortly after the conclusion of game one. The Golden Eagles and the Panthers will conclude the series on Sunday, April 28 with an 11:00 a.m. (CT) series finale.

The last time on the diamond
The last time that Southern Miss took the field, they fell to #17 Ole Miss, 3-0 on Wednesday night in Oxford.

Sophomore right fielder Karley Nichols and junior shortstop Lacey Sumerlin led the Golden Eagles offensively with two hits each in the contest. Nichols went 2-for-2 at the plate while Sumerlin went 2-for-3.

Despite suffering the loss, Southern Miss ace Abby Trahan threw well in the contest. The junior right-hander hung six scoreless innings on the board and aside from a two-run triple by Tate Whitley and a one-run single by Mikayla Allee in the bottom of the second inning, Trahan managed to hold the Rebels' offense in check.

Noteworthy moment
FIU currently leads the all-time series, 3-1. Southern Miss is 0-3 when hosting FIU at home in Hattiesburg and 1-0 in neutral site matchups. This weekend will mark the first time that the two teams have played each other in Miami.

It has been quite some time since Southern Miss and FIU have squared off on the softball field. The last time that the two teams met was in May of 2014 when they played a C-USA series at the Southern Miss Softball Complex in Hattiesburg.
