Men’s Golf Finishes Opening Day of the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men's golf team fired a 36-hole total of 601 to hold 14th-place in the 2019 Old Waverly Collegiate Championship, Monday, which is being held at West Point, Miss.
The tournament takes place at the par-72, 7,000-yard Old Waverly Golf Club and saw the Golden Eagles shot rounds of 304 and 297.
Junior Walker Kesterson (Hartsburg, Mo.) fired a Golden Eagle low round of four-under-par 68 over his second 18 holes to pace Southern Miss, after shooting a 77 in the opening round for a one-over 145 total. Kesterson ranks tied for 36th place.
Sophomore Brian Richards (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) added rounds of 74 and 73 for a 147 and a 43rd-place tie, while junior Matt Lorenz (Gulf Shores, Ala.) added scores of 74 and 79 for a 153 and 71st-place tie.
Local product, sophomore Hunter Atkins of West Point, added rounds of 78 and 79 for an 81st-place showing and a 157 total score, while freshman Joey Kirkland of West Monroe, La., tied for 82nd with circuits of 83 and 78 for a 161.
ULM leads the way with a two-round 22-under-par team score with a 554 stroke total. They are seven strokes ahead of No. 4 Vanderbilt, who shot a 561 on the day.
The final 18 holes in the event start with 8 a.m., tee times, Tuesday. Fans can follow the event here.
