SADDLEBROOKE, Ariz. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team improved by three strokes in the second day of the MountainView Collegiate, forging a tie with North Texas for the No. 12 spot.
The tournament has proven to be as stout as anticipated heading into the week, where the top 11 teams have posted impressive scores of 4-over par or better. Texas State has maintained the overall lead with a 13-under 563 so far.
Southern Miss' 298 on Saturday marks its second-best round out of its three spring tournaments thus far.
Valentina Haupt had the team's top Saturday performance, carding a 3-under that included birdies on 17 and 18. That five-stroke improvement from Friday has put her in a tie for No. 17. Her 69 tied her for the sixth-best second-round of the tourney.
Miranda Holt, after recording a team-high four birdies Friday, also improved her score by three strokes. Henriette Syr also added three birdies, while Friend Chompitakdacha (like Haupt) accomplished the feat on 17 and 18.
