John Ellis Named NCAA South Region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year for Indoor

USTFCCCA announced the regional awards on Friday.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – John Ellis of Southern Miss Track and Field has been announced as the NCAA South Region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year, announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association mid-morning on Friday. Ellis was chosen as a part of the USTFCCCA's 2019 DI ITF Regional Awards.
Ellis, in his fifth year at Southern Miss as an assistant coach with the track and field program, earned the accolade for the outstanding coaching job he has done this indoor season with his jumpers, hurdlers and multis student-athletes. He has three national qualifiers, three school record holders and one Conference USA record holder from this indoor season. Ellis coached senior John Warren to a school record and Conference title in the triple jump, boasting a 16.81m, 55'2" jump at the Vanderbilt Invitational. He coached Caleb Parker to a Conference title, Conference meet record and a school record in the 60m hurdles, touting a time of 7.73. Eric Richards, a junior, was coached by Ellis to a school record and Conference title in the high jump, with a mark of 2.22m, 7'3.25" at the Conference USA Indoor Championships. His athletes had a combined 46 points at the Conference Championships.
