Henriette Syr Holds Stellar Outing Despite Rain Delay, Early Finish

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Rain forced a delay and early finish to Day One of the ICON Invitational, but redshirt-junior Henriette Syr rallied from a bogey on her first hole to hold a current tie for fourth place.
Southern Miss has 3-5 holes to finish in Round Two on Tuesday before beginning the third, weather permitting.
Syr, of Oslo, Norway, was also in a tie for first after the first round. Her 68 matched the best round for a Golden Eagle this season (Valentina Haupt in season-opening USA Intercollegiate) and tied for the third-best round in program history. Six birdies, including two on par-threes, helped her cause.
Senior Miranda Holt also made quite the impression in her third tournament of the season, matching a career-low 73 to sit No. 13 on the first-round leaderboard. She also added three birdies.
Southern Miss held the No. 6 spot out of the 15-team field after the opening round (11-over 299), despite going up against six ranked teams. It was leading or tied with three of them, including No. 18Â Clemson (299), No. 46Â Texas Tech (300) and No. 20Â TCU (302). The Golden Eagles currently sit in ninth.
