THIBODAUX, La. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team, playing its second road match of the weekend, rallied from a doubles deficit to clean up in singles for a 4-1 win over Nicholls on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles (4-3) had taken on No. 20 LSU in Baton Rouge the previous day and rallied together at just the right time. The doubles pairs on No. 2 and 3 were playing in just their second and first matches as a duo this season, respectively. The Colonels were able to get the upper hand there before Chung-Han Tsai and Jorman Reyes, also making their 2019 debut together, could finish in their close battle.
Singles was a whole different story. Matthieu Peres continued his freshman ascent with a sweep, as did Tsai on the next court. Reyes earned his team-high fourth victory with a dramatic 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory, and Cecchetto improved to 3-3 on the season with a seesaw affair, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. The Golden Eagles improved to 22-12 in singles play this season.
Southern Miss returns home for its next match, a Sunday, March 3 tilt with Delta State.
