Southern Miss Ready for In-State Battle Against Jackson State

The Golden Eagles will travel to Jackson, Miss. for a road contest against the Tigers on Thursday
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles (5-1) will hit the road again on Thursday and travel to Jackson, Miss. for an in-state battle against SWAC opponent Jackson State University (0-6). The match is scheduled to take place at the JSU Soccer Field on the campus of Jackson State University beginning at 4:00 p.m. (CT).
The Last Time Out
The Golden Eagles squared off against Nicholls State on Sunday in Thibodaux, La. and shutout the Colonels by a final score of 2-0. With their win on Sunday, the Golden Eagles have now won their last five contests, and currently own the longest active winning streak in C-USA.
Midfielders Stephanie Garcia and Hannah Abrams netted the two goals for the Golden Eagles in Sunday's match. Garcia's goal came at the 32:08 mark in the first period after she chipped the ball around the keeper and then scored from approximately 15 feet. Abrams took advantage of a deflected ball and scored the Golden Eagles' second goal of the game at the 69:52 mark in the second period of play. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Sarah Preston earned the first start of her Southern Miss career and recorded her first shutout.

Southern Miss will look to continue their road success, and extend their winning streak to six games as they wrap up their five-game road stint at Jackson State on Thursday.
