The Lady Eagles defeat the Guatemalan national team and go zip lining.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Lady Eagles were victorious in the final game of their trip abroad in Costa Rica, defeating the Guatemalan National Team 77-37 in good fashion.
The Game According to Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis
"The progess we've made showed in this game as we were able to grab the win, 77-37. The Guatemalan National Team ran several things defensively that we have not seen, but we adjusted on the run. Because of the different types of trapping defenses we did not run as many offensive sets as I would like but it gave us an opportunity to go make plays. We have focused a lot this summer in offensive play off the ball and in this game it was evident. Our transition offensive game came out of our defensive play. This allowed us to shoot 59% from the floor in the first half. Defensively, this was our best game of the tour. We really gained a better understanding of rotations after we were beat off the dribble. Our ball defense was much better than the other two games but we must continue to make strides."
"I am very pleased with the progress we have made in a short period of time. It is difficult for a team to be on their feet for team excursions and then step on the floor and play. This team showed maturity in giving their best. Megan Brown and Shonte Hailes led the the way offensively and I'm really pleased with many of our younger players stepping up to make it happen offensively. Defense and rebounding were the challenges in every possession. This will be our bread and butter as we start the season and we believe in striving for excellence in these two areas. As the head coach, this is the heart and soul of any champion. Our ultimate goal is to compete for a C-USA Title."
