HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- With the 2018 campaign less than seven weeks away, Southern Miss senior placekicker Parker Shaunfield has earned Preseason All-Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year honors.
The redshirt-senior out of Aledo, Texas also earned First-Team honors at the end of the 2017 season. He started his career with a school-record streak of 87 consecutive extra points made and also converted 17 of his 20 field goals (including a career-best 15 in a row). His most memorable game of the season came in an overtime road win at Louisiana Tech on Oct. 21, hitting a career-best four field goals in four tries, including a career-high tying 49-yarder with 1:23 left in regulation. It was the first four-field goal contest by a Golden Eagle since Oct. 17, 2015.
Shaunfield also belted a career-long of 51 yards at the end of the first half at Rice (Nov. 11) and was No. 5 in the conference in field goals per game (1.31). Last year, he became the first Golden Eagle specialist on the All-League team since Corey Acosta in 2014.
