HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss junior third baseman Luke Reynolds (Forest, Miss.) earned the final Conference USA Hitter of the Week honors for the 2018 season in helping lead the Golden Eagles to a 3-1 record and the league regular-season title in an announcement by C-USA Sunday afternoon.
Reynolds hit safely in all four games during the week, tallying a .643 batting average (9x14), to go along with a .773 on-base percentage and a 1.214 slugging percentage.
He reached base 17 times in 22 plate appearances over the four games as the Golden Eagles captured their second consecutive C-USA regular-season title and fifth overall.
In the squad's first-ever sweep of Marshall in the state of West Virginia in seven tries, Reynolds hit a late two-run homer that helped spread the gap in the middle game of the set that the visitors won 7-4.
Reynolds had two, three-hit games during the week and drove in two runs three times during the year.
In the final game of the Marshall series, Reynolds went three for four with three runs and two RBI, including his team-leading 15th home run. The three-hit game also put him over the .400 mark in batting average as he currently holds a .403.
It was the third C-USA weekly honor for Reynolds this season. Louisiana Tech's David Leal earned the league's Pitcher of the Week.
The Golden Eagle, the No. 1 seed in the 2018 C-USA Baseball Championship at MGM Park in Biloxi starting Wednesday, opens play with a 4 p.m., contest versus No. 8 seed UAB.
