HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team split the Saturday doubleheader with North Texas, taking game one 2-0 and falling in game two, 8-1. The Golden Eagles move to 19-32, 8-12 on the season.
Southern Miss combined for seven hits on the day with Karley Nichols and Ciarra Cherry having two, one in each game while Samantha Reynolds, Samantha Papp and Rebekah DiLavore each had one of their own.

With nine hits combined between the two teams, only one hit, a two RBI triple, was the difference in the final score.
The two teams continuously put people on base but both defenses worked out of the jams and kept it scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. Cherry ripped a two RBI triple to the centerfield wall and both Nichols and Reynolds crossed the plate, the lone runs of the game.
Kim Crowson pitched the length of the game and picked up her ninth win and sixth complete game on the season. The senior allowed no runs on six hits and one strikeout, she only walked two batters out of the 29 she faced.

The Mean Green put up two runs every other inning to take a 8-1 win over the Golden Eagles. They scratched the board first with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning to take a quick 2-0 lead and then extended it 4-0 in the top of the third with back-to-back solo homeruns from the Gregory sisters.
Southern Miss responded right away in the bottom of the third with a run of their own. DiLavore had a lead off single before Reynolds moved her to second on a sac bunt. Nichols knocked a single through the left side to put runners on the corners with Cherry up to bat. An RBI single for Cherry scored Nichols from third and cut the lead 4-1.
North Texas replied with two more runs in the top of the fifth and then another two in the top of the seventh to seal the win.
Samantha Robles (7-14) got the ball to start and pitched 2 1/3 innings before Peyton Carter came in relief and pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing two runs on four strikeouts. Senior Jillian Johnson came in and finished the game with two innings pitched and allowed only one earned run.
