
Codd Finishes First Day at Conference Tournament in Top Five

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Senior Southern Miss men's golfer Matt Codd fired a two-under (70) today to post the Golden Eagles' best score after the first day of the Conference USA Men's Golf Championship hosted by the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark. The team shot a 15-over (303) and is tied with Rice for 8th overall.
Codd currently sits in 3rd overall after collecting his ninth round of par or better on the season. The Red Deer, Alberta product amassed five birdies, four of them coming on the back nine, posting the third most birdies of the 65 golfer field.
Freshman Brian Richards posted a three-over (75) to sit tied for 18th on the Par 72, 6,969 yard course. The Gulf Breeza, Fla. native totaled a team-high 11 pars this afternoon.
Nathan Corchis and Willie Hammond both tallied seven-over (79) for their opening rounds and are tied for 52nd.
Derick Kelting rounds out the Golden Eagle lineup at eight-over (80), tied for 55th.
