
Men's Tennis Advance to C-USA Championships Semis

HOUSTON, Texas - Southern Miss men's tennis advance to the semifinals of the Conference USA Championships for the second year in a row.
The Golden Eagles remain undefeated against Conference USA opponents after defeating Charlotte 4-2 in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon. Southern Miss took the 1-0 lead into singles play after No. 1 and No. 2 in doubles took their matches 6-4.
Daniel Merker and Jorman Reyes won their ninth doubles match at No. 1 this season while Wen-Po Tseng and Chung Han Tsai won their 15th match at No. 2. Southern Miss has won all four doubles points against C-USA opponents this season.
Reyes made it a 2-0 Southern Miss lead with his 17th singles win of the season, the most of any Golden Eagle. Reye finished first at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-2 finish.
Charlotte cut the lead to 1 after Luca Keist defeated Ronit Bisht at No. 1 6-3, 6-3. Friday's loss was only Bisht's fifth loss of the season.
Tom Cecchetto won his first match against a C-USA opponent at No. 2 with a 7-5, 6-1 win and gave the Golden Eagles the 3-1 lead. The 49ers continued to battle back with a win at No. 3.
Chung Han Tsai clinched the match for the Golden Eagles with a close 7-5, 7-6 match at No. 4. Tsai improves his win streak to three matches and improved to 12-2.
The Golden Eagles face the No. 1 seed in ODU Saturday at 12 p.m. ODU defeated UAB 4-0 to meet Southern Miss in the semis. Southern Miss defeated UAB in the C-USA showcase 4-2 earlier this season.
