HOUSTON, Texas - The Southern Miss men's tennis team finished out the 2018 season with a 4-0 loss to No. 33 Old Dominion in the Conference USA Championship semifinals Saturday afternoon.
After dropping the doubles match at No. 1 and No. 3, the Golden Eagles trailed a C-USA opponent for the first time this season.
Teeradon Tortrakul dropped his match at No. 3 in straight sets to give the Monarchs a 2-0 lead. Jorman Reyes' strong performance was halted at No. 6 and dropped only his third match of the season with a 6-4, 6-4 loss.
ODU clinched the match after Chung Han Tsai lost his match against Francois Musitelli 7-6, 6-1. The freshman finished his first year as a Golden Eagle with a 11-3 overall record.
Both of Wen-Po Tseng's matches went unfinished this weekend. Tseng finished his senior campaign with a perfect 15-0 singles record and now holds the longest win streak in Southern Miss history. The senior finishes his time at Southern Miss with 44 singles wins. Tseng tallied one C-USA player of the week honor after sweeping conference opponents in singles play at the C-USA Showcase. He was also named to the C-USA Honor Roll in the spring.
The Golden Eagles finish the year with a 19-4 overall record, 4-1 against C-USA opponents. This season's 19-win season is two wins shy of last season's best finish under head coach Zubin Engineer.
