Almond led the team in points against #5 Mississippi State on Friday.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Daishai Almond earned herself Freshman of the Week honors on Dec. 17 from Conference USA for her performances against Alcorn State and Mississippi State.
Almond, a Athens, Ga. native, took over at point guard when teammate Shonte Hailes left the game due to injury in the second quarter against No. 5 Mississippi State, finishing the game as the leading scorer for the Lady Eagles with 10 points. She was 57 percent from the field against the Bulldogs, and set career highs in all categories but one.
Against the Lady Braves of Alcorn State, Almond saw her first game with more than eight minutes on the floor. Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis said "a star was born" during that game, because of Almond's fluidity with the ball. She had a career-best four assists and two steals in her 15 minutes of play and the Lady Eagles came away with a 66-47 win over Alcorn.
