Lady Eagles Fall to Tulane in Battle for I-59

The Lady Eagles battled against the Green Wave in 71-54 loss.
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Lady Eagles came up short after a hard fought fight against Tulane in the second-annual Battle for I-59. The Green Wave walked away with the 71-54 victory over Southern Miss in Devlin Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Southern Miss (5-3) never stopped chipping away at the Green Wave's lead, and kept battling up until the final buzzer sounded. In the first half, the shots just wouldn't drop for Southern Miss. Tulane (6-1) took a hit in the second half as the Lady Eagles saw its offense ignite and Southern Miss outscored the Green Wave 18-14 in the third quarter, and cut the lead to as little as nine with two minutes to play in the fourth. The Lady Eagles saw a field goal percentage of .714 during the third quarter when they went 5-for-7 from the field.
The Lady Eagles were led by Shonte Hailes in all facets of the game, with Hailes scoring 18 points, recording six boards and five assists against the Green Wave. She, Camille Anderson and Allie Kennedy each had two 3-pointers.
When it was all said and done, the Lady Eagles were outrebounded 38-26, but the majority of both teams' boards came on defense. The Green Wave claimed the Battle for I-59 trophy and it's 31st win against the Lady Eagles, although the Lady Eagles still hold the series lead, 36-31.
Up next, the Lady Eagles will return to Reed Green Coliseum for a three game homestand, the first of the three against Alcorn State on Dec. 11 at 6pm.
