
Volleyball Falls to North Texas, Hosts Alabama A&M Monday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - On a day in which Southern Miss' five seniors -- Sarah Bell, Kylie Grandy, Dani Ajayi, Katherine Still and Alexis Coombs -- were honored, the North Texas Mean Green got the best of the Golden Eagles in a three-set win.Â
The loss dropped them to 14-13 and 6-6 in C-USA play. Their 6-6 record slots them in seventh place in the standings with games against LA Tech and North Texas remaining.Â
The Mean Green opened up with an 8-3 lead, but after calling a timeout, the Golden Eagles climbed back to tie the game after three Southern Miss blocks and a Still ace. North Texas responded by hitting an 8-3 run to pull ahead by four. From there, the Golden Eagles added three points, but the Mean Green held on to win 25-21. Bell added 11 helpers and three different Golden Eagles recorded three kills in the first set.Â
Once again, North Texas opened with a 7-2 lead. The Golden Eagles managed to stop the bleeding and embarked on a 6-1 run to tie the set. North Texas found three different runs en route to a 25-17 win in the second set. North Texas took the third set to to win their fifth game in a row.Â
Catherine Repsher paced the Golden Eagles with 10 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Bell finished her day with 26 assists and 11 digs. At the net, Southern Miss recorded eight blocks. Repsher finished with a team-high four blocks and Ashley Berry finished with three.Â
The Golden Eagles return to action on Monday night against Alabama A&M. The match will conclude Southern Miss' 2018 home slate. The Bulldogs and Golden Eagles are slated to start at 6 p.m.
