"We are truly blessed to have Elizabeth and Morgan as a part of our Lady Eagle Family. Both are young ladies that will make Southern Miss alums proud."
Elizabeth Gibbs, a 5'9" guard from Landmark Christian High School in Georgia, signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Eagles next season. She is a 1,000 point scorer and in the 2017-18 season she was a member of the All-Region First Team as well as the All-State Team. She also lettered in track, garnering Discus State Champion honors in the 2017-18 year and finished ranked No. 2 for all classes of discus throwers in Georgia. When asked about why she chose Southern Miss, Gibbs said, "I chose Southern Miss because it is a place where I can see myself grow on and off the court."Â
Joye Lee-McNelis on the signing of Elizabeth Gibbs
"'Class Act' is how I describe Elizabeth Gibbs. She has all of the intangibles that we expect in young ladies that we bring into our program. She is a "trifecta" sign for us. She is a first class young lady who possesses high character, high goals, and is highly motivated. She is respected by her peers and has served in leadership roles at Landmark Christian. This fall she was selected as the school's Homecoming Queen. She is a student who enjoys challenges yet prefers writing and drawing as a way to express her love for people. She is one of the most talented 2019 Guards in the Atlanta area. Liz has floor vision, shoots a pure jumper, and competes every possession. Coach Hill has had a long time relationship with her Coach and her husband which definitely helped us get our foot in the door with Liz. We are blessed to have Liz join our Lady Eagle Family."
Morgan Jones, a 6'2" forward from Tylertown, Miss. attends Columbia Academy and will be joining the Lady Eagles next season. She has been named Best Rebounder two years in a row, as well as being named Best Offensive Player, All-South State, and Team Captain. She was First Team All-District for three years and has multiple honors for art and academic excellence. She is also an FCA Leader and has been the Event Coordinator and Corresponding Secretary of the Crown Club. When asked why she chose Southern Miss, Jones said, "I chose Southern Miss because when I'm there, I feel at home. The people are so welcoming and kind, and Coach McNelis is already a motherly figure in my life. I can't wait to officially become a Golden Eagle!"Â
Joye Lee-McNelis on the commitment of Morgan Jones
"We are so excited to have Morgan Jones as a part of our Lady Eagle Family. Morgan's enthusiasm and passion are just a few of the intangibles she will bring to our program. These same characteristics help set her apart from so many young people. Morgan's love for others will make her a great teammate for our current players. Her encouraging spirit and love for Jesus Christ is always in her conversations. As an athlete Morgan's best years are ahead of her and she will be challenged daily in the weight room and on the court."
