LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. -- So far, so good for the Southern Miss women's golf team in the 41st FIU Pat Bradley Invitational, as it wrapped up Sunday's opening round with a tournament-best 2-under 286.
It marked the second-best round for the team, trailing only the 6-under 282 on the second day of the season-opening USA Intercollegiate. The Golden Eagles also won the 2017 edition of the tournament with a then-school record 873.
Valentina Haupt and Henriette Syr are both in a tie for third with a 2-under 70, while Cassidy Evreniadis climbed into a tie for 10th by shooting an even-par. It marked the second and third times that Haupt and Syr, carded below-par scores in nine and seven rounds this season, respectively.
Both Haupt and Emily Cox boasted streaks of three consecutive birdies, and Haupt's 3-under on the front nine marked a highlight for the Golden Eagles' early success.
Southern Miss finished with a combined total of 1-under on Par-3s while holding the third-best score for Par-4s.Â
The Golden Eagles will begin Round 2 at 7:45 a.m. CT, with live results available here.
