HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team may be missing Homecoming on its campus, but it might as well hold its own celebration at the upcoming FIU Pat Bradley Invitational.Â
This course was where last year's Golden Eagle squad tied the then-program record of an 873, which also tied for the third-lowest total in the program's history. The squad topped that all-time school mark in its first competition this season, an 872 at the USA Intercollegiate (Sept. 15-17).
In last year's field, Julie Baker carded a 218 for her first top-10 finish (third). Ping Huang and Nichada Satasuk also finished sixth, while Valentina Haupt and Emily Cox were 13th and 40th, respectively.Â
This year, Southern Miss will trot out Baker, Haupt, Cox, Cassidy Evreniadis and Henriette Syr. The trek to South Florida also comes after the team wrapped up play in the Magnolia Invitational on Monday. Tuesday's final round was canceled due to rain, so there will be a little more hunger amongst the group as well.
"We are excited for a quick turnaround into this event and to see how they respond because of it," head coach Lucy Nunn said.Â
Participating teams include Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, FIU (host), Georgia State, Gonzaga, Jacksonville, McNeese State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UMKC, South Florida, UTEP and Wyoming.
The action will take place at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, a par-72, 6,288-yard course. The three-day, 54-hole event can be followed live on Birdiefire.com.
Sunday and Monday will begin with 7:30 a.m. (CT) tee times, followed by a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday.
