Boca Raton, Fla. -Â The Southern Miss volleyball team were on the heels of a comeback Friday night at FAU, but the Owls managed to stave off the Golden Eagles in four sets (22-25, 25-27, 25-21, 25-27).Â
The Golden Eagles and Owls battled closely in the first two sets, but FAU was able to squeeze out two wins to take a two-set advantage. That forced Southern Miss into a game they had to win. The Golden Eagles, backed by Sarah Bell's 53 assists, came out swinging in the third set en route to a 25-21 win.Â
That forced a fourth set, which the Golden Eagles almost stole from the Owls. FAU was able to make a comeback at the end and fend off the Golden Eagles from making a late run. Kylie Grandy posted a game-high 21 kills and also had 15 digs. Alexis Coombs and Catherine Repsher tacked on 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Coombs hit a whopping .478 percent on 23 attacks.Â
At the net, Southern Miss had eight blocks via four from Coombs, Repsher and Ashley Berry. Madison Lawler added 15 digs to tie Bell for a team high.Â
The Golden Eagles will take the court again on Sunday afternoon at Florida International.Â
