Montgomery, Ala. - It's been four years and counting, but Sarah Bell finally reached the top. In the first set against Alabama State, the senior recorded her 4,757 career assist. That assist made her the all-time career assists leader in Southern Miss history.Â

The Golden Eagles (11-10, 4-3 C-USA), on a historical night, would go on to beat the Hornets in four sets (25-14,25-15, 28-30, 25-19). The historical assist came on a kill by Catherine Repsher that went straight into the heart of Alabama State's defense. Southern Miss dominated the first two sets and were poised to escape Montgomery without dropping a set, but the Hornets mounted a comeback late in the third set.Â
Southern Miss led by as many as five points before the Hornets tied the match at 21-all. The two squads traded points from that point on, but an attack error by Chandler Marshall and a kill from Taira Cottingham sealed the deal for Alabama State.Â
However, the black and gold bounced back and utilized a series of runs in the fourth set to secure the four-set win via a 25-19 score. Marshall shined with a team-high 14 kills and Alexis Coombs added 12 of her own. In the end, Bell finished with 43 assists, 15 digs and two blocks. At the net, Repsher finished with five blocks to give Southern Miss a total of eight blocks.Â
The Golden Eagles will be back in action at Florida Atlantic on Friday at 7 p.m.
Thoughts from Stephanie RadeckiÂ
"It was a great night for Sarah Bell and Southern Miss Volleyball. I am so proud of her and her teammates for earning this achievement. Sarah has left her mark on this program and certainly isn't done yet. She is a great player, a talented setter, and a strong leader.Â
"Alabama State -- especially their middle attack -- played extremely well in the third set. We responded and rallied in a great home atmosphere. It was a good night."
Thoughts from Sarah Bell
"It's a huge accomplishment. It means a lot to me, but what means the most is how supportive my teammates (past and present), coaches, family, and friends have been throughout my journey."
