WEST POINT, Miss. -- Julie Baker's eagle on the No. 15 hole helped her to a 1-under 71 after the first round of the Magnolia Invitational. The Golden Eagles sit in eighth place.
It is not an unfamiliar spot for Southern Miss, which improved its stroke total by 17 and 13 strokes over its first and second tournaments of the season, respectively.
It marked Baker's second-lowest round of the season (3-under 69 in USA Intercollegiate). It also included a 2-under showing on the back nine.
Cassidy Evreniadis and Valentina Haupt each carded three birdies. Valeria Pichardo also tallied a pair in her first action of the season.
Emily Cox also performed well in her first 2018-19 action, firing a 3-over 75.
LSU's Kathleen Gallagher held the top spot with a 4-under 68.
