Men’s Golf Returns to Action at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men's golf team, which has enjoyed a solid fall season under first-year coach Eddie Brescher, returns to action in the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate being played Monday and Tuesday at the Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La.
The event, hosted by Louisiana Tech, will be played on the par 72, 7,070-yard course with 36 holes being played on Monday beginning with an 8 a.m., shotgun start and then another 18 holes taking place at 8 a.m., Tuesday with a shotgun start.
The Golden Eagles will be among the 15-team field which features Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Cincinnati, Georgia, Lamar, host LA Tech, Middle Tennessee, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Oklahoma City University, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Troy and UAB.
Southern Miss will utilize the lineup of juniors Matt Lorenz (Gulf Shores, Ala.) and Walker Kesterson (Hartsburg, Mo.), freshman Joey Kirkland (West Monroe, La.), sophomore Brian Richards (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) and senior Nathan Corchis (Water Sound, Fla.).
Entering the tournament, the Golden Eagles have posted five-straight rounds of below-par play and look to continue that string on Monday. In fact, the Golden Eagles finished nine-under for a team score in each of the last two events, finishing first in the Sam Hall Intercollegiate and eighth in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
Individually, Southern Miss has 22 rounds of par and under rounds over the first three events, including a team-high five from Lorenz and Kesterson. The team compiled a total of 48 in 12 tournaments a season ago.
