BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The first day of the Samford Invitational was an amazing one for the Southern Miss men's tennis team, picking up seven wins on the day out of 11 battles against stout competition.
"This was a great start to the fall season," head coach Zubin Engineer said. "The team was into it and everyone contributed in their spots."
Tom Cecchetto and Chung-Han Tsai grabbed a victory in No. 1 doubles against their Auburn foes, 7-5, while Jorman Reyes and Ronit Bisht did the same on their court in a 6-4 fashion.
In singles, the squad faced its share of clutch and convincing play. Teeradon Tortrakul (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) and Jorman Reyes (6-1, 7-6) each found their ways amidst the battle to victory. Southern Miss' 5-2 edge over South Alabama in singles was marked progress after falling each of the last two spring matches to the strong Jaguar program.
The Golden Eagles will return to action Saturday morning.
