Southern Miss Goes Back to Work on the Road

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team (9-7, 1-2) voyages on their second Conference USA road excursion this week with contests at UAB and Middle Tennessee. Broadcasted on CUSA.TV, The Lady Eagles will meet with the Blazers Jan. 18 at 6 p.m., and the Jan. 20 at the Blue Raiders will be streamed on WatchESPN.com starting at 1 p.m.
UAB sits atop the C-USA standings and is coming off a 79-61 win over WKU. The Blazers are 3-0 in conference play, 14-2 overall, and are amidst a seven game win streak, but Southern Miss is also coming off a dominate 65-50 win over LA Tech, snapping the Lady Techsters' seven game win streak.
This will be the 62 meeting between the two programs, 59 of them coming in 32 consecutive seasons, and Southern Miss owns a 39-22 overall record against UAB and a 15-14 record at Bartow Arena. The Lady Eagles also won its previous two games played at Bartow Arena, as it played host to last season's conference tournament.
The battle at point guard will be one to watch as both team's ball handlers, Shonte Hailes for Southern Miss and Miyah Barnes for UAB, were featured on last year's C-USA All-Freshman Team. Blazer forward Rachael Childress was also featured on the list.
The game will also feature the conference's most prolific shooting team in the conference, UAB shoots 46 percent from the floor, versus the conference stingiest defense, the Lady Eagle hold opponents to an average of 36 percent from the floor.
