HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Louisiana Tech got the best of Southern Miss in the semifinals, and UL Lafayette was able to edge the Golden Eagles 3-2 in the consolation to wrap up the Southern Intercollegiate Match Play on Saturday at Hattiesburg Country Club.
Saturday's match play had two teams facing each other in five individual matches. The winner of each individual match will earn one point for their team. The first team to win three points will be the winner of that match. The four schools, including South Alabama, scheduled it to prepare for their respective conference championships.
Matt Codd took the lone point for his team at No. 3 (2&1) against the Bulldogs' Felix Palson. The Golden Eagles also suffered a pair of 1-up defeats for Matt Lorenz and Ryan Argotsinger, the latter coming after 21 holes.
Lorenz and Walker Kesterson each won points against ULL in the consolation in 19-hole fashion. ULL's Fernando Cruz Valle was also able to defeat Derick Kelting 6&5 at the No. 5 slot.
South Alabama edged LA Tech 3-2 for the title. The Golden Eagles will compete in C-USA Championship in Texarkana, Ark., from April 23-26.
