Baseball and Women's Golf Earn SAAC Nominations

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss baseball and women's golf athletes Matt Wallner and Nichada Satasuk as SAAC Players of the Week (Feb. 27 -- March 5).
Junior Satasuk played a crucial role in Southern Miss starting the 2017 Spring Season of with a bang. The Chianhmai, Thailand native set the school record for lowest 54-hole total at the 2017 Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Class after shooting 5-under (211). The team also set a school record for lowest round in the final round after shooting 280, breaking the old record by nine strokes. Southern Miss's overall finish of 9-over (873) is the lowest 54-hole team total in school history.
Satasuk shot 72, 70 and 69 in her three rounds. She had the second best Par 4 scoring out of a field of 231 participants, (3-under) and totaled 13 total birdies (including back-to-back-back birdied in the second round), tied second most of all participants.
Satasuk helped the team claw from a fifth place at the start of the last round to third overall after shooting 69.
Wallner finished the four-game week batting 3-12 (.250). With games against Tulane and UL-Lafayette, Wallner earned to RBIs and one homerun including a bomb in the final game of the series.
Wallner pitched the final 4 2/3 innings at Lafayette that kept the Golden Eagles alive in the final innings. Wallner gave up two hits, zero runs and walked only one batter. Wallner served up seven strikes, which was a season high. With his win on Sunday, Wallner improves to 2-0 on the mound.
