Boyd, Maffo voted as SAAC Players of the Week

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Baseball's LeeMarcus Boyd and track and field's Nadia Maffo were voted as the Southern Miss Players of the Week by their SAAC peers.
Maffo, competing in the Southern Miss Open, broke the hammer throw school record she had set one week prior. Her 62.04-meter launch (203'6") was the best at the event and also helped her to her second consecutive C-USA Female Field Athlete of the Week accolade. The freshman is currently tops in the conference, No. 12 regionally and 21 nationally.
The Golden Eagles will compete in the C-USA Championships in El Paso, Texas, from May 11-14.
Boyd, from Coldwater, Miss., hit safely in all four games last week to up his current hitting streak to seven games as the nationally-ranked Golden Eagles posted a 4-0 record.
The No. 9 hitter in the Southern Miss order registered two hits in all four games and had a double in each of the Middle Tennessee games. Boyd registered six RBI for the week to give him 35 this season, which ranks fourth-best on the squad. He also scored in every game, totaling seven runs. He drove in three runs in the win at South Alabama and scored three runs in the series finale at Middle Tennessee.
Southern Miss hosts FAU in a battle of the top-two teams. The series begins Friday at 6 p.m. at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
