Men's Tennis Drop A Nail-Biting Match to UAB

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team concluded the Conference-USA showcase, Sunday, in a thrilling 4-2 loss to UAB.
The Golden Eagles (10-4) dropped its second match of the weekend despite having four of the six singles matches going to a third set.
The Blazers (7-5) recorded the doubles point with wins on courts 1 and 3. This was the first doubles point the Golden Eagles lost all weekend. The loss on court 1 was Daniel Merker and Jorman Reyes's first loss in six matches. Teeradon Totrakul and Rakshit Rishi almost forced the third match to finish but fell just shy of the win in a close 7-5 loss.
Senior, Chao-Yu Huang, tied the match by defeating Kenton Parton on court three in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Huang improves to 11-1 in singles play while performing on courts 3 and 4.
Teeradon Tortrakul dropped his only match of the weekend to Stefen Gonzalez on court 3 in a 6-4, 6-2 match.
Reyes got back into winning form after Sunday's match with a win over Christian Coetzee. Reyes won the first set 6-4 but was forced to a third set after falling 6-4 in the second. It was smooth sailing for Reyes in the third as he gave the Golden Eagles it's second tie of the game in a 6-1 set win.
Senior, Wen-Po Tseng battled one of the closest matches of the day on court 1 and forced three sets after stealing the second set 6-3. Tseng would fall to Tim Dollman in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 loss.
Rishi, a senior, and Merker were both battling to the end, both in the third set bit the Blazers clinched the match with a tough win on court 2. Merker would drop the match, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. Rishi's match went unfinished with a 4-6, 6-4, 3-4 final.
"It was a thrilling match to be a part of and I'm proud of the way the team performed," coach Zubin Engineer said.
