
Softball Drops 1-0 Decision to UAB in Conference Opener

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southern Miss softball team dropped a 1-0 decision in the C-USA opener against UAB on Saturday. The Golden Eagles were supposed to play a doubleheader but due to inclement weather the second game was cancelled. They will make it up Sunday in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
The Golden Eagles and the Blazers exchanged scoreless innings until the bottom of the seventh when UAB hit a walk-off single up the middle to capture the victory.
Southern Miss had four hits on the day. Lauren Holifield, Samantha Papp, Heather Hill, and Samantha Reynolds all recorded singles. The Blazers allowed six walks in the game, Holifield and Dew both twice; Jillian Johnson and Hill each once.
UAB finished the game with six hits including the walk-single to end the game.
In the circle, Jillian Johnson (4-2) only allowed one run on six hits in 6.2 innings of work. Johnson only walked two batters.
