HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss returns home this weekend to face Evansville in a three-game set, looking to rebound from its midweek defeat at Alabama on Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles (3-1) open a four-game homestand, playing the Purple Aces Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. Click here to look at this weekend's promotions.
Despite falling to Alabama 12-5 earlier in the week, the team's offense has excelled over the first four games, scoring nine runs a contest and sporting a .302 team batting mark.
Senior Dylan Burdeaux, who has hit safely in all four games this spring leads the way with a .353 batting average with a team bests of three home runs and eight RBI. Junior transfer Mason Irby also has hit safely in all four games to open the year and is batting .429 with a double and an RBI. Junior Taylor Braley has put together a .357 batting mark with a two homers and seven RBI.
The Golden Eagles have also committed just two errors over the first four games for a .986 team fielding percentage.
Southern Miss plays an Evansville squad that has opened the year at 1-3, including a 7-4 setback at nationally ranked Vanderbilt on Wednesday. The Purple Aces fell on the road to Central Arkansas two of three over the first weekend of the season.
The two teams have met just three times and the Purple Aces collected two of those victories to start the 2001 campaign in three games decided by two runs or less.
