Track and Tennis Trio Receive Southern Miss SAAC Honor

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss tennis and track athletes Carolin Drescher and Courtney Filliben join track's Cra'vorkian Carson as SAAC Players of the Week (Feb. 13-19).
Carson and Filliben each put forth outstanding efforts at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham. Carson, a junior who earned SAAC honors two weeks ago as well, was a gold medalist in the 60m dash with a time of 6.72, and Filliben, a senior, earned silver recognitino in the women's 800m with a time of 2:14.25 and was also a member of the silver medalist Distance Medley Relay team that finished with a time of 11:41.82.
Fans can also mark their calendars for the Southern Miss Invitational (March 31-April 1) and Southern Miss Open (April 28-29).
Drescher was dominant over Southern's Darnesha Moore on Saturday, winning 6-1, 6-0 to lead the Golden Eagles. Each of her four wins this year have been in two sets and she has been at the No. 1 singles position all spring. The senior has been an All-Conference USA selection all three prior seasons as well.
The women's tennis team is home for its next two matches, first against West Alabama on Thursday and second versus Tulane on Tuesday. Both will start at 2:30 p.m.
