HOUSTON, Texas â€" The Southern Miss Lady Eagle basketball team (11-7, 3-3) will meet with the Rice Owls (10-7, 1-5) on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. for the 13 contest all-time.
"Rice returns several players that have been there for some time," said head coach Joye Lee-McNelis. "Hawkins, their point guard, has had a lot of success in her time there. It's amazing how much she has improved this year. That's difficult to do. Goodwine is another mainstay for them. She's a triple threat. She can pass the ball, rebound the ball and score the ball.
The all-time series between the two teams sits at 7-5 in favor of Southern Miss. The Lady Eagles swept the series last year and Southern Miss has not lost to Rice since a 72-43 contest on 1/22/12.
Lady Eagle's guard Brittanny Dinkins is currently sitting at 17 in the record books for all-time scoring. She only needs seven more points to pass Alexis Hall and move to 16. Dinkins is also in the midst of four straight games with 20 or more points. There are only two other Lady Eagles, Jamierra Faulkner and Angela Atterberry, that have achieved this same feat in the past 19 seasons.
Lady Eagle fans can hear Josh West on the radio broadcast for the game on WFOR 1400 AM at 1:30 p.m. CT.
