Southern Miss Women's Basketball Announces 2016-2017 Schedule

HATTIESBURG, Miss â€" Southern Miss women's basketball coach Joye Lee-McNelis announced the team's 2016-2017 basketball schedule Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Eagles open the season with an exhibition game Nov. 8 against Mississippi College and will also play the University of New Orleans, William Carey, Alabama State, Tulane and Alcorn State throughout the month. The team heads to Mobile, Ala. to take on South Alabama at the start of December. Southern Miss will host the Bulldogs of Mississippi State in Reed Green Coliseum and will look to continue home court dominance.
Cal, Xavier and Northern Kentucky will face Southern Miss in Puerto Rico at the 2016 Puerto Rico Classic Dec. 19 through the 21.
"Getting the opportunity to go to Puerto Rico will be tough and challenging, but our nonconference schedule will prepare us for our Conference USA schedule," said McNelis.
Conference USA play will begin on Dec. 30 against Louisiana Tech and will conclude March 3, against Louisiana Tech. Southern Miss will travel well over 11,000 miles during the season as they play teams from the SEC, Big East, Pac-12, Sun Belt, Southwest Athletic Conference and the Ohio Valley Conference. The Lady Eagles will face six teams that won 21 or more games last season and nine teams that competed in postseason play.
