Hattiesburg, Miss -- The No. 68 Southern Miss Women's Golf team finished the first day of the Lady Pirate Invitational tied for 11. The team started out the day strong, being as high as fourth and 8 strokes behind leading East Carolina, but the second round proved to be the teams' road block. The team shot a combined 317 in the second round, 11 strokes more than the first round.
Quote from head coach Erika Brennan:
"Today was a disappointing day for us out on the course, but I'm very encouraged by our team meeting after the round. The girls were honest with themselves and I know we will be back and better tomorrow. Days like today reveal those opportunities for growth and the crew will capitalize on that in tomorrow's final round. There were some good things today too. I think we will look back to today and see it as a catalyst for moving us forward through the rest of our season. We're taking the positive and using it to fuel us.
