Men's Golf Concludes Play in Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. -- The Southern Miss men's golf team concluded play in the 31st Annual Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La. The Golden Eagles finished the tournament in 11th place overall, while Hayes Weathersby turned in a 13th place finish as an individual.
The Golden Eagles posted a final round score of 307 to finish with a cumulative three-round score of 911 (+47). The Black and Gold recorded a first round score of 297 and a second round mark of 307.
The tournament was won by Illinois (277-281-291--849, -15) with Kansas (278-285-287--850, -14) and Texas A&M (278-281-294--853, -11) finishing second and third, respectively. Tournament-host Louisiana-Lafayette (294-287-305--886, +22) finished the event in eighth place.
Weathersby paced the team with a 220 (+4) score in the tournament. He started the tournament with a one-under par round of 71 before closing out the first day with an even round of 72. In the final round, Weathersby recorded a 77 to finish in a tie for 13th.
Willie Hammond registered scores of 72, 81, and 73 to finish the Louisiana Classics at +10 with a 226. Ryan Argotsinger (78-82-77) and Matt Codd (77-77-83) each carded scores of 237 (+21). Rounding out the team score for Southern Miss was Nick Cortez (77-77-89--243, +27).
Nathan Corchis competed as an individual in the event. Corchis recorded rounds of 82-75-76 to finish with a score of 233 (+17) overall.
Southern Miss returns to the course on Friday, March 11, as the Golden Eagles travel to Laredo, Texas to participate in the Border Olympics.
