Lady Eagle Basketball Makes Texas Swing to Rice

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team wraps up the road portion of their schedule when the Lady Eagles visit Rice on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.
The Lady Eagles will conclude the road swing at North Texas on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.
Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (13-12, 6-8) are coming off a 65-53 win over UTSA on Saturday. Caitlin Jenkins and Brittanny Dinkins combined for 42 points. Jenkins led with 22 points and 11 rebounds in recording her 12th double-double. Dinkins scored 20 points and Brittny Norris chipped in 11 points. Tajanay Veiga dished out seven assists.
Jenkins leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 12.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Dinkins is next as she adds 11.0 points. King adds 7.7 points and 5.3 rebounds. Dinkins and Keri Jewett-Giles are handing out 3.5 and 3.4 assists per game, respectively.
Southern Miss is averaging 60.2 points and 37.4 rebounds per game while shooting 39.7 percent from the field and 64.9 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles are giving up 59.2 points on 39.2 percent shooting.
A Look at Rice
Rice (7-18, 6-8) is coming off a 68-62 win at FIU. Four Owls scored in double figures led by Wendy Knight with 19, Maya Hawkins had 13, Shani Rainey and Alyssa Lang had 12 and 11 points, respectively. Jasmine Goodwine had a team-best eight rebounds. Rice shot 55 percent in the first half.
Head Coach Tina Langley is in her first season at Rice after spending seven seasons at Maryland.
Goodwine leads the Owls in scoring and rebounding with averages of 12.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Rainey is next at 11.2 points while Hawkins adds 10.1 points.
The Owls are averaging 58.4 points and 35.2 rebounds per game while shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 62.1 percent from the line.
Series Record
This is the 12th meeting between the two teams. Southern Miss leads the overall series at 6-5 that dates back to 2005-06 season. Rice won the first three meetings between the teams. Southern Miss has won the last four meetings between the two teams.
