GOLDEN EAGLES SEND SMALL SQUAD TO LSU TWILIGHT

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Southern Miss men's and women's indoor track and field teams sent a small group to compete in the LSU Twilight meet on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016.
Senior Christopher Monroe shatters his own school record in the triple jump with a leap of 15.52m (50'11"). He finished the competition in third place.
Weight thrower's, Brashe Wood and Danisha Jones got the Golden Eagles started off with fifth and sixth place finishes, respectively. Wood tossed the 20lb. weight 16.73m (54'10.75"). Jones recorded a result of 16.65m (54'07.50").
Senior Jamar Sims recorded a sixth place finish in the long jump with a best of 6.81m (22'04.25").
In the women's shot put, Kayla Taylor led the Golden Eagles with a toss of 13.10m (42-11.75) for a second place finish. Jones threw the shot 12.60m (41'04.25") to finish in third place. Wood finished in fourth place with a throw of 12.48m (40'11.50").
Annette Gaskins recorded a fourth place jump of 5.60m (18'04.50) in the long jump. Sharday Branch jumped 5.27m (17'03.50") and finished in ninth place.
The Golden Eagles get on the track, February 24 and 25 in Birmingham, Ala. at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championship.
