Lady Eagle Basketball Hosts UTEP in Annual Pink Game

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team is set to host the Annual Pink Game on Thursday when league-leading UTEP visits Reed Green Coliseum at 6 p.m.
This will be the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game as we partner with the Waiting for a Cure Foundation to raise awareness. There will be members of the organization as well as Breast Cancer Survivors recognized during halftime. Additionally, the pig race at halftime with funds being raised to assist those undergoing treatment for Breast Cancer in the Pinebelt.
The first 200 fans will receive a Pink Southern Miss Lanyard. It is Buy One, Get One Free Ticket Special for this game as well. And it will be Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night as all Faculty and Staff members in attendance will receive a voucher for a Free Hot Dog from concessions. Faculty and Staff members will be asked to check-in at the marketing table at the North Entrance to receive their voucher.
Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (12-11, 5-7) are coming off a 74-44 loss at Middle Tennessee. Brittanny Dinkins scored a team-best 14 points and Brittny Norris added 10 points. Lashyra Cotton had a team-high seven rebounds.
Caitlin Jenkins leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 12.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Dinkins is next as she adds 10.4 points. Jayla King adds 8.1 points and 5.0 rebounds. Dinkins and Keri Jewett-Giles are handing out 3.5 each assists per game.
Southern Miss is averaging 60.2 points and 37.2 rebounds per game while shooting 39.9 percent from the field and 64.3 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles are giving up 59.5 points on 39.7 percent shooting.
A Look at UTEP
UTEP (21-2, 12-1) is coming off a 75-47 win over Florida Atlantic on Feb. 13. The Miners sit atop of Conference USA, having won 12 of their last 13 games. Jenzel Nash led the way with 16 points followed by Sparkle Taylor with 12 and Starr Breedlove added 10 points.
Head Coach Keitha Adams is in her 15th season at UTEP and own a record of 268-183 with the Miners.
Nash leads a quartet of Miners in scoring with a 13.3 per game average. Cameasha Turner is next at 12.5, Breedlove adds 11.7 and Taylor 11.5 points per contest. Nash is also the top rebounder at 5.7 rebounds per game.
The Miners are averaging 72.0 points and 40.6 rebounds per game while shooting 41.8 percent from the field and 69.6 percent from the line. UTEP is pocketing 12 steals per game while owning a +5.2 turnover margin.
Series Notes
This is the 17th meeting between the two teams. UTEP leads the overall series 11-5 that began in 1993. Southern Miss won the first two meetings between the teams. UTEP has won three of the last five meetings.
Next Up
Following the UTEP game, the Lady Eagles will host UTSA on Saturday at 5 p.m. Fans may redeem their Saturday Baseball Ticket Stub at the Reed Green Box Office for a Complimentary Ticket to the Women's Basketball game as part of a ticket bounce-back.
This game will serve as our annual game to recognize and honor members of the Children's Center from here on campus. And the first 100 fans in attendance will receive Southern Miss Sunglasses at the North Entrance of the Coliseum as they enter.
