
Lady Eagles Go on Road to South Alabama

HATTIESBURG, Miss â€" Southern Miss Women's Basketball is off to a 6-1 start for the third time in the last five seasons.
The Lady Eagles, coming off of an 83-55 win over Mississippi Valley, will take their talents to Mobile, Ala. to take on the Jaguars of South Alabama (3-3 overall, 0-0 Sun Belt).
"It's going to be a real test for us, to be able to be able to play somebody that's much bigger than us," said head coach Joye Lee-McNelis. "The Lady Eagles have to go in with a different mentality than what we did against Tulane. We've got to be able to focus much better taking our game on the road. This week we practiced situations where we were down starting the game. That gave us a mentality that will help us battle and focus on the road a little more "
This season, Southern Miss is playing ball that is faced paced, applies lots of presses and focuses on rebounding.
Southern Miss is averaging 80 points per game and holding their opponents to only 54.4 points a game. The team's pressure is coming up with 17.4 turnovers and 14 steals a game The team as a whole is ranked ninth in the nation and Brittanny Dinkins is ranked seventh as an individual with 4.14 steals a game. The Lady Eagles effort on the glass has out rebounded every opponent except for one this season. The rebounding total for the season is 306-232 and Southern Miss is averaging at least 10.6 more rebounds a game than their opponent.
Southern Miss faced the Jaguars last season and came away with a 71-51 win.
