
Baseball Adds Two Left-Handed Pitchers for 2018 Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss baseball coach Scott Berry announced Tuesday the addition of two left-handed pitchers to its roster for the 2018 season.
A pair of Mississippi natives, Adam Jackson (Clinton, Miss.) and Drew Boyd (Hattiesburg, Miss.), joins the Golden Eagles next fall.
Jackson, a 6-foot-4 southpaw for Hinds Community College, recorded 14 appearances for the Eagles last spring in which he posted a 3-1 in 50.1 innings pitched. As a freshman, Jackson recorded 48 strikeouts averaging 8.58 per game with a 3.75 earned run average.
Prior to HCC, Jackson played for Eddie Lofton at Clinton HS where he finished his senior season 7-3 with a 0.89 ERA in 55 innings pitched. He was named as the Most Outstanding Pitcher, team MVP and made the all-district and 6A coaches all-state teams his senior season.
Along with his success on the diamond, Jackson excelled on the soccer field as well. He was named all-state and earned the Arrow and Captain award for his school.
Boyd, another left-hander, is a senior from Oak Grove HS. In his junior season, Boyd pitched in 53.1 innings with an ERA of 1.31. He fanned 74 batters. Boyd had an .875 win percentage with a 7-1 mark, allowing only 40 hits on 217 batters faced.
Additionally, Boyd hit .293 for the Warriors and was tied for third on the team with 24 hits and second on the team 17 RBIs. Boyd lead the Warriors with two home runs in 2016. Boyd was named to the Hattiesburg American All-Area first team in 2016.
In his sophomore season, Boyd hit .221 with 23 hits, 20 RBIs and 14 runs. Boyd went 9-1 with a 1.76 ERA facing 299 batters. He allowed only one homerun in 71 innings pitched and gave up 62 hits.
