Hattiesburg, Miss -- The 5-1 Southern Miss Women's Basketball team is off to its best start since the 2014-15 season.
The Lady Eagles are coming off a fifth straight Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic Championship and look to extend their winning streak to three games in a matchup with Mississippi Valley State tomorrow evening at 6 p.m..
"Mississippi Valley is a very athletic and explosive team," said head coach Joye Lee-McNelis. "Their offense is generated out of the defense. They're very aggressive, they run all types of presses to create defensive havoc to get things going on the run and they're big, as far as their guards."
Christina Reed, a senior guard for Mississippi Valley, leads the team in scoring with 13.6 points a game. Ashley Beals, the Devilettes go-to post player, is the second leading scorer on the team and she leads the team on the glass with 8.2 rebounds a game.
Southern Miss is averaging 79.5 points per game and holding their opponents to only 54.3 points a game. The team is also averaging over 40 rebounds and out rebounding their opponent by 9.5 rebounds a game. Brittanny Dinkins is climbing up all-time 3-point field goals made charts. Dinkins tied Jamierra Faulkner for seventh all-time at 113 against Louisiana Lafayette. Dinkins needs 13 more to pass Angela Atterberry and move into sixth.
