HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss football team will host Marshall on Saturday at 6 p.m. for its annual HOMECOMING game. As that date approaches, we take a look back on the 10 most memorable HOMECOMING games in Golden Eagle history.
Nov. 3, 1951 -- It's a game that still qualifies as the biggest margin of victory in Southern Miss history. The then-Southerners played lights-out on both sides of the ball for a 76-0 win over Northwestern State in legendary head coach Thad Vann's third season at the helm (taking over for Reed Green). The squad also won the Gulf States Conference title with a 4-0 record and scored 46.5 points per game in its six wins as opposed to its 5.4 in the five losses. Other scores against Northwestern State in those first four Vann years included wins of 67-28, 7-0 and 39-13.
