HATTIESBURG, Miss. â€" The Southern Miss soccer team battled UAB to a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes of Conference USA action Friday at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
The 7-6-2 Golden Eagles held their annual pink game to bring awareness to breast cancer when they hosted The Blazers.
The first half ended scoreless despite the nine shot attempts totaled by both teams. Becky McMullan had the closest attempt for the Golden Eagles in the 43rd minute but her attempt sailed just over The UAB goal.
Stephanie Garcia put the Golden Eagles ahead of the Blazers in the 62nd minute of the game off McMullan's pass. Garcia's shot from outside the box hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced behind the line for her third goal of the season.
The second half was full of offensive opportunities for the Golden Eagle with McMullan, Richmond and Becky Coleman all taking shots on goal. The Blazers were able to force overtime when Rachel Green scored in the 85th minute.
The Blazers looked as if they won the game in the last minute of the first overtime when a goal was called back after time had expired. Both teams continued to create scoring opportunities in the second overtime but couldn't find the back of the net. The Blazers now are 4-10-2 on the season.
